Since October 2003, the Next Generation foundation, in co-operation with the London Knowledge Lab, has organised a series of informal seminars to discuss major issues in informal learning. These seminars are often used as platforms for projects seeking input from a wide variety of professionals in the field of creativity, learning and play.
The first seminar was organised to discuss the 'Museum of Learning' project
being developed by Steve Seidel at Harvard's Project Zero. Other seminars
have hosted the design team from Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum, the Science
Museum's 'Launchpad' team, the Gilbert Collection's project team for the
exhibition 'Bling Bling' and Canadian game designer and Internet safety
specialist Drew Ann Wake.
Most recently the seminar hosted the educators from Reggio Emilia, and
discussed the ways in which the Reggio approach to learning could be
translated to the informal setting of the museum or science centre.
The Next Generation foundation also co-organises a series of one-day study
sessions with King's College, London, to look at issues arising in the
learning professions such as mobile technology, interaction design and
e-learning. This programme is jointly funded by the ESRC and the AHRC.
